We stopping spelling tests after the MAP tests. We will have homework Wednesday and Thursday. The final homework is assignment is to make a musical instrument. It must be able to change it’s pitch. Parent can help construct the instrument, but the design needs to be the student’s idea. They will present their instruments Monday.

I attached a copy of the instrument letter and scoring guide.

I know the podcast says Episode 4, but it took us a while to get this podcast finished.

Carl Junction class pictureHere is our Skype conference with Mrs. Sorey’s class in Nags Head, North Carolina.  We had some technical difficulties, but it was only our first ever Skype meeting our class had ever had.  We only managed to record about half of the voice chat, and some of that was hard to hear.  We started with video, but they couldn’t see us.  In the part we didn’t record Mrs. Evanoff said she saw a school of dolphins while driving over the bridge on her way to school!  It was an exciting experience.  We didn’t record much about Earth Day but it was sure fun!

Earthcast 2008 Web badge by Jason RobertshawSince we are testing on Earth Day, we are going to have our celebration head of time.  On Friday we are going to try having a video chat with a 3rd grade classroom in Nag’s Head, North CarolinaMrs. Sorey’s class will hopefully meet up with us virtually on Friday morning.  We will introduce ourselves, chat some about our separate locations, and discuss Earth Day.  The latter part of the chat will hopefully be recorded.

We will post the video recording here as a video podcast, but the audio will also be played during a 24-hour webcastathon on the Ed Tech Talk internet webcast channel.  A webcast is like a live radio show on the internet, it is often recorded and posted later as a podcast.

Wish us luck.

We are beginning a new project on Famous Inventors. We will research the inventors with partners and make a book out of them. However, this book will be shared with the whole world. We will use our research to create a book called Famous Inventors on Wikijunior.

The purpose of Wikijunior is to produce age-appropriate non-fiction books for children from birth to age 12. Wikijunior is a sub-project of Wikibooks, which is a community working to create a free library of educational textbooks that anyone can edit. Wikibooks is a sister project of Wikipedia, the largest encyclopedia in the world.

By contributing our researh to Wikijunior, we are making a permanent contribution to the world. Children all over the globe will be able to learn from and add to what we will have done on this project. What a great legacy to leave behind here at the end of our 3rd grade year.
