We did not take a spelling test on Friday because we weren’t here last Friday. We will just carry over last week’s words to this week.
Come join the fun at Family Fun Night sponsored by our CJPTO. The fun starts at 3 pm and runs until 6:00. Third grade is running two games: Wheel of Fortune and Candy Bar Walk. There will be lots of other games, activities, T-shirts, and concessions. Wristbands will cost $5.00 on Friday and $6.00 at the door. Wristbands allow unlimited gameplay. I will be there from 3:00-4:30. See you there!
Here are this week’s spelling words. I did not send a list of the words home this week because they were are on the back of last week’s.
We also have a list of all the words so far this year. I always pick words from this list to put on the spelling test. The words are already visible on the word wall, so I give clues about a word and they have to pick and correctly spell the right word. I use clues like the number of syllables, beginning or ending sound, word that rhymes with it, number of vowels or consonants in the word. This is very good pratice with decoding words. Play the clue game with the list and see whether they can pick the correct word with 3 clues or less.
Ahoy, Matey! Captain Book here. Mr. Sigler let me take the helm for a minute to tell ye about me contest.
If ye be lookin’ fer treasure, ye need look no further than a good book. I’ve sailed many an adventure readin’ a good book. I love to read aloud to others, and I love to be read to. But nothin’ shivers me timbers more ‘n divin’ into a good book all to meself.
Ye can count any minutes you read outside of Mr. Sigler’s class, but ye have to scrawl them down on paper. Ye have to have the paper signed by the captain o’ the house to make sure no dishonorable scallywags try sneakn’ their way to the treasure.
What is the treasure for the winner, ye ask? Why, no grub in the galley for you, matey. Ye’ll get to sail your ship with all your mates down to Randy’s Drive-in or Gambinos Pizza for lunch. For the Top Reader in the crew, he or she will sail the foredeck on a special float in the homecoming parade.
We land in 2 weeks, so ye’d best get started readin’ right away. Don’t forget to turn them in to Mr. Sigler.
Good luck, Matey,
Captain Book
This weeks spelling words are Week 7.
