Why can’t anybody write,
A song to sing on Thanksgiving _____?

When there’s 4,000 songs to play,
Every minute of Christmas ___,

Well, it’s because of just one _____

My uncle Harvey Phillip _______,

Likes to take a nap,
With my cat, Frisky, on his ___.

And from his nose, sounds galore!
‘Cause Uncle Harvey loves to _____.

But if I had a Thanksgiving song to play,

Christmas Project: Letters to Soldiers

November 19, 2010 on 9:15 pm | In News | No Comments

Each year the Primary 2-3 school has a building wide Christmas project that our students participate in.  This year, our students will be making Christmas cards and writing letters to men and women serving in our U.S. military.  We thought it would be great to send these to Carl Junction family members that are in the service, and those that graduated from Carl Junction.  However, to do this, we need a lot of help.  If you know of anyone from Carl Junction, or a family member of someone from Carl Junction that is serving in the military right now, we would appreciate it if you could send us their name and address.  Our goal is to try to send as many as possible to Carl Junction soldiers (graduates, family members, etc.)  We were told by the post office to try to get them mailed by Thanksgiving if we wanted them to arrive overseas by Christmas.  We want to get everything mailed next week, before Thanksgiving break.

Some of you have sent us names and addresses of those you know that are serving in the military right now, and we’ve got them on our mailing list, and we appreciate your help.  Some are stationed overseas, and some are stationed here in the states.  We will be doing our best to make sure that everyone on our list receives mail from the Primary 2-3 school!

Our class is almost finished making their cards.

If you know someone, you can send the name and address to us by note, by email GThompson@cjr1.org, or call the school office (417)782-4380.

This was a short week. Especially since their great behavior has earned them yet reward party. This one was much more low key and will hopefully hold us until the Christmas party.
We did work on:

Reading: Questioning – How to ask themselves good questions as they read in order to improve reading comprehension.

Writing: Step 6;4-Square+1+C – We have learned to write 5 paragraphs with a strong topic sentence, major and minor details, and a solid conclusion. They can now write an organized, well-supported essay.

Math: We studied perimeter, area, circumference, and diameter. That concludes our unit 3 on measurement.

Classrooms Care

November 5, 2010 on 1:12 am | In Reading | No Comments

Scholastic Book Clubs is sponsoring a classroom reading service project.

We have committed to do our part by reading 260 books by December 17th.  That’s a 10 book goal for each student.  I told them that I want them to make it books that are on their reading level.  For most, that means chapter books.

You can read the parent letter about the program.

If we reach our goal, Scholastic has committed to do their part of this Classrooms Care program.  If we do our part, they will help donate 1,000,000 books to classrooms in underprivileged communities through

Not only are they helping themselves by reading, they are helping others.  You can see

I think we can show our class progress toward the goal.

After we meet our goal, you’ll be able to find us on the Classrooms Care
