This year we read the book Charlotte’s Web. We summarized the chapters as we went and then picked out the most important for a summary of the whole book. We then turned those chapters into readers theater plays that we recorded. Due to technical difficulties we start with chapter 2 instead of chapter 1. Now, for you enjoyment, we bring you our version of Charlotte’s Web.
One of our field trips this year was to visit the Spiva Art Center. Sponsors made it possible for 1,000 area students to visit the center and create a collaborative mural that will become a permanent exhibit at the gallery.
Mrs. Denton had already prepared our students for the trip by teaching them elements of the art they will see.
Our students recorded interviews with each other about the art there. Using digital recorders, cell phones, and digital cameras, they applied what they had learned to the art they saw. The application of their learning was powerful.
I pulled them all together into this video. Enjoy!
We collaborated with Mrs. Woolever’s 3rd grade class at Cecil Floyd Elementary in Joplin, MO to create Earth Day 2009 newscasts. They created video newscasts, while we made audio newscasts. Here are our newscasts.
Our State representative, Tom Flanigan visited our class to talk to us about his job and how our government works in the state of Missouri.
February is African American History Month. We recorded this episode of our guest speaker coming in honor of this month. Kelvin is a good friend of one of our students came in to tell us a little about his heritage. He also answered many questions.
We read the Reader’s Theater play “Why the Sky is Far Away” by Benchmark Education. Here is the recording of our performance.
Thank you Benchmark for giving your permission to record this play.
After we finished our plants unit at the beginning of the year, we reflected on one thing we learned. We recorded and compiled these interesting facts and ideas into our second podcast for this year. Enjoy.
