Sitton Word Study Unit 21

The concepts for this unit are:

  1. Sounds can be spelled more than one way.
  2. A prefix is a letter or letters added to the beginning of a word.
  3. A vowel followed by r stand for a new sound (bossy “r”).

The Unit Core Words are:

Unit 21:

  1. learn
  2. point
  3. city
  4. play
  5. toward

 

There will be a cloze-style pretest and skill pretest.  They will correct their missed words to take home to study.  You will see a parent letter come home with an activity involving one of this week’s spelling rules.  On Friday, Those who did not ace the pretest will have a spelling test over the words on the cloze pretest.

There are Unit 21 activities for practicing the Unit 21 Word Study unit .

  1. Double letters stand for one sound.
  2. Words are easier to spell when each word part is spelled separately.
  3. Homophones are words that sound the same but have different spellings and meanings.

The Unit Core Words are:

 

  1. room
  2. sea
  3. against
  4. top
  5. turned

  2. /j/ frequent spelling patterns are j, ge, gi, and gy.
  3. Frequent spelling patterns for/s/ are s, ss, ce, ci & cy.
  4. Frequent spelling patterns for/ul/ are le, al, el

The Unit Core Words are:

  1. example
  2. heard
  3. several
  4. change
  5. answer
