We did work on:
Reading: Questioning – How to ask themselves good questions as they read in order to improve reading comprehension.
Writing: Step 6;4-Square+1+C – We have learned to write 5 paragraphs with a strong topic sentence, major and minor details, and a solid conclusion. They can now write an organized, well-supported essay.

Math: We studied perimeter, area, circumference, and diameter. That concludes our unit 3 on measurement.
Weekly Update
October 25, 2010 on 9:08 am | In Uncategorized | No CommentsHere is what we did last week.
Reading: Making Connections was our comprehension strategy for the week. Students learned how make Text-to-Self connections in which they connect something they read to something in their own lives. They learned that something they read reminding them of something else they had read was a Text-to-Text connection. They make Text-to-World connections when they find something they know about the world in what they read.
Writing: Students are learning to organize their writing using a “4 Square” graphic organizer. Next week we will begin taking the ideas off the graphic organizer and put them into paragraphs.
Science: We took our Unit Test on Plants
Social Studies: We have begun studying maps, especially of Missouri. We have learned the continents through our “Continents March” and the 50 states through the “Nifty Fifty United States” song. We learned the two major rivers in Missouri and the states bordering Missouri.
Math: We finished Unit 2 about extending addition and subtraction. We started Unit 3 about Measurement. We learned why we have standard measurements and how people measured things before they had standard measures.
